Challenges are caused by large data sets and complex morphological structures, such as the cancerous vessel tree and the newly formed bone.

Interface Biosystems - Manmade Materials

The group Interface Biosystems - Manmade Materials measures contractile forces of living cells acting on surface-modified implants. This phenomenon should be applied to optimize implant surfaces and to realize biosensors.

In the field of Intelligent Biomaterials mechano-sensitive nanocontainers are designed to treat cardiovascular diseases.

Materials and Technologies in Dentistry

In the field of Materials and Technologies in Dentistry suitable materials and instruments such as laser bone cutting and oral scanners are evaluated and further developed to provide dentists and surgeons with contemporary tools.

Morphology of Hard and Soft Tissues

The group Morphology of Hard and Soft Tissues uses synchrotron radiation (highly intense X-rays) to non-destructively reveal the 3D morphology of biological tissue on the cellular level. Currently, the nanostructures of human brain and urethra are focus of research.
